The latest round of international fixtures in the UEFA Nations League and African Cup of Nations Qualifiers saw several Foxes involved for their countries. The King Power side are awaiting the resumption of the Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace, so will hope for no injuries or set-backs to arise from the break.

Leicester City players out on the beat

On Sunday 8th September, Danish internationals Mads Hermansen, Victor Kristiansen, and Jannik Vestergaard were available for Denmark in their tie with Serbia. Hermansen did not feature as former Leicester player Kasper Schmeichel retains the starting spot for the international side. Kristiansen got an assist and a yellow card in the 2-0 win, Vestergaard had an uneventful game.

On Monday 9th September, Italian international Caleb Okoli remained on the bench for Italy’s 1-2 victory over Israel in the Nations League. The young defender will be happy to have had the call-up, and will hope to get more game time with the Foxes to fight to keep that international spot. Welsh goalkeeper Danny Ward was also left on the bench in Wales’ 1-2 win to Montenegro on the same day.

On the same day, Wout Faes reunited with former teammates Youri Tielemans and Timothy Castagne as the Belgian team fell to a 2-0 defeat to a clinical and dominant France side. The defender did not look entirely convincing, which will probably not effect his position at the back for Leicester City. After all, Okoli plus Vestergaard is untested. Elsewhere, Bilal el Khannouss was on the bench for Morocco’s 0-1 win over Lesotho: that does not mean we should not play the talent against Crystal Palace though.

On Tuesday10th September, Kasey McAteer was on the bench for Ireland as they faced off with Greece, coming on at the 74th minute in their 0-2 loss. The academy graduate obviously deserves more chances at Leicester. Meanwhile, Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi starred in a 0-0 draw: it would suggest Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks should partner in midfield alongside a more creative talent instead of the Nigerian defensive midfielder.

The Pride of the East Midlands should look at their international’s performances and select accordingly ahead of their match-up with Palace. Okoli and Vestergaard could start at the back, dropping Ndidi, and giving Stephy Mavididi or McAteer the chance on left-wing.
