Maresca nearing treachery if he signs another Leicester star
By Jay Billing
Maresca has inside knowledge of the financial situation at Leicester, and he may seek to bring more players to Chelsea that he’s previously worked with. Meanwhile the Foxes are in a vulnerable spot due to their financial situation.
Mads Hermansen joined the east Midlanders last July for £5m from Brøndby in Denmark. He established himself as the first-choice 'keeper and as a standout performer in his first season with the Foxes.
Last season was the first time Leicester had a goalkeeper who was strong on the ball and can be a key player in the build up phase. During Maresca’s reign on Filbert Way, his philosophy was to build up from the back and for the side to have a lot of possession. Hermansen being a big part of why that method was so successful.
Because of this, Hermansen had a pass completion rate of short to medium range passes at 99.5%, according to Fbref. This concerns passes completed between five and 15 yards for short passing; the latter completed between 15 and 30 yard range.
Not only was Hermansen effective by foot for Leicester, he was also a more than capable shot-stopper. He won matches and made vital saves to keep his teammates in games, especially the Coventry fixture back in August.
Losing Hermansen would be a massive blow for the outfit as they would lose someone who has the potential to be a world class goalkeeper. He'd also command a bigger transfer fee in the future with him only being 23 years old. The Danish goalkeeper still has four years left on his current City contract, therefore the club is in control of the situation and won't be forced to sell.
However, if the goalie was to go it would help strengthen the King Power side's position regarding financial fair play rules. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea for £30m meant 100% profit on the deal, and they essentially sold Maresca to CFC for £10m as well. It seems the club might already be in the green for PSRs, as they continue to acquire personnel.
With Leicester in a strong position, they can negotiate a higher fee for Hermansen. Although, if he was to stay at LCFC for another season and develop in the Premier League, the same suitors remain and pay a higher fee. Maresca can probably expect a hostile reception at the King Power if he does steal another asset.
