In spite of not playing for Nigeria during the entire AFCON tournament up until Wednesday evening, Iheanacho made a telling impact when finally used. The Leicester striker is supposedly embroiled in a 'rift' with Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro. Whilst the former Manchester City man's absence continued for important matches of the Nigeria international team, rumours circulated of an issue.

The Fox was reportedly meant to be involved in a pre-match press conference prior to the semi-final against South Africa, but was absent even from that event. Peseiro suggested that Iheanacho had been given no playing time due to recently returning from injury.

Nevertheless, the 27-year-old was trusted by his boss in the end, and duly repaid the faith. Iheanacho helped the side reach their eighth AFCON Final by dispatching the match-winning penalty. The LCFC forward then led thrilling and heartwarming celebrations with his teammates and the staff. Congratulations to all from FoL.

Will Kelechi Iheanacho remain at Leicester City for the 2024/25 season?

Iheanacho hasn't been totally convincing for the east Midlands outfit in the current Championship campaign. Let's be honest. He might actually be down to third or fourth choice to start up front for Enzo Maresca once he returns to Filbert Way.

While English top-flight clubs such as Aston Villa, Brentford and Crystal Palace are linked to the attacker. Meanwhile his contract is rapidly expiring, so he could well be gone over the summer. And, LCFC may have to relinquish the player for free. Ultimately, Maresca will decide Iheanacho's Leicester fate.
