There are two pressing and interesting stories about Leicester City to discuss today (Sunday, January 11). On Saturday of this weekend, the Foxes defeated Cheltenham Town 2-0 in the Third Round of England's most prestigious competition that isn't a league: the FA Cup. After being unceremoniously eliminated from the League Cup, which is commonly known as the Carabao Cup here, this was a refreshing improvement.
That sentiment is prevalent because the same exact strategy occurred prior to the Robins clash: heavy rotation. Head coach of the East Midlanders, Marti Cifuentes, oversaw as many as eight changes to his LCFC side for the visit to horse racing country. And, it must be said, on this occasion the Catalonian made the right choices with regard to his team selection.
However, many people have noted that the King Power outfit were not at their best at EV Charger Points Stadium (which is a peculiar ground name, I know, right!). Nevertheless, City mustered 12 shots to the home club's nine. Leicester's 10 corners to one is comparably impressive though. Yet allowing a group from English Football League Two to have attempts in almost double figures is a worry. Yet one man who impressed was Stephy Mavididi.
Star Fox Stephy Mavididi may become increasingly influential as the campaign progresses
Mavididi was the Leicester Mercury Man of the Match versus Cheltenham. He was singled out for praise (and expectationally) by his gaffer following an eye-catching goal and performance:
"We know Stephy is a quality player,” Cifuentes said. “We want consistency in his performances because he’s capable of making a difference, not only in games like today but in top-level Championship games. He’s an important player for us. Last season was not the easiest for him. This season he has picked up a couple of injuries, but hopefully we can see the best version of him in the second half of the season."Marti Cifuentes - LCFC Live
Leicester City transfer target en route to Rangers?
City may now reportedly lose out on Sunderland’s Dan Neil, according to The Scottish Sun. A capable player; he certainly could have aided the increased involvement of Mavididi in a facilitator capacity. That illustrates why this is a shame for City.
Rangers of Glasgow, West Bromwich Albion, LCFC and Coventry City were mentioned as possible suitors. Now this development has supposedly transpired:
"According to The Scottish Sun, Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil is set to move up north to Danny Rohl’s Rangers. The former Sheffield Wednesday boss is being backed heavily this month and are also looking at fellow Sunderland man Romaine Mundle."The 72
