The Leicester free transfer signing who would be even better than Elijah Adebayo

There are still plenty of free agents available on the market, even as we near ever closer to the 2026/27 season kicking off in League One.

Indeed, ex-Manchester United youth product Will Keane remains available on a free transfer, despite his recent goalscoring exploits in the Championship with Preston North End, with Crewe Alexandra rumoured to be interested in the EFL veteran.

Leicester City has its eyes set on their own free transfer gem, with a contract allegedly offered to Elijah Adebayo, who is without a club at the moment, having been released by Luton Town this summer after a couple of injury-disrupted seasons.

With ten Premier League goals next to his name, the hope would be that the 28-year-old, if he were to pull on Leicester blue next season, would be able to call back to these glory days and lead the line in League One with venom.

Securing the £0 services of the 6-foot-4 marksman might not be the only venture Leicester make when looking at cheap reinforcements, however...

The other free agents Leicester could sign

There is a wide array of free agents out there at the moment, trying to find a new club to call home.

If Martin and Co. were to lose Harry Souttar shortly, with Sheffield United looking to be in the driver's seat for his signature, the Foxes could possibly look to the likes of Dominic Iorfa as a way to boost their depleted numbers at the back.

The 31-year-old has 254 Championship appearances under his belt when looking at his EFL-heavy career, and is a one-time promotion winner out of League One with Sheffield Wednesday. As a short-term fix, he could be a sensible and shrewd signing.

Looking at the other names available, it is a slight shock that Archie Collins is still out there searching for a fresh opportunity, after opting against a new Peterborough United contract.

The logic on Collins' end could be that he isn't rushing into a move, as he clearly favours a Championship switch to test himself, after being a steady League One presence at Posh.

Leicester must be tempted somewhat to try and test the waters, while he is still on the market, as he would go down as an even better free transfer deal than Adebayo joining.

While the ex-Walsall striker would join with a reputation for being a Premier League goalscorer, he only has five goals across his last two injury curtailed campaigns for the Hatters.

On the contrary, Collins would join off one of his best League One seasons to date, with two goals and seven assists heading his way across 45 matches last campaign, even as Luke Williams' men slumped to a poor 18th place finish.

With Harry Winks now gone, Leicester do need some more bodies centrally, and the addition of the calm and stablising 26-year-old, who knows League One inside out, might be just what they need.

Additionally, Collins being such an experienced and calm head could work very well partnered next to more wide-eyed midfield personnel at the King Power such as Sammy Braybrooke.

Leicester do have the big bucks to spend, with £20m recently won for Abdul Fatawu.

But, it would feel like a big missed opportunity if the Foxes didn't try and win Collins, with the cool-headed midfield anchor no stranger to promotion battles in the lowly league, either, having reached the playoffs with Posh during the 2023/24 season.

They came up short that campaign, as Oxford United headed to the Championship at their expense, but he could finally win that elusive promotion, if he moved to the King Power this off-season as a statement £0 buy.

While the Taunton-born battler sticks out as a presence you can rely on, Adebayo would be far more of a risk, as Leicester continue to weigh up their next moves in the hectic transfer market.
