It hasn't been confirmed as of yet, but Danny Ings looks set to be a standout free transfer signing at Leicester City.

Despite his goalscoring form falling off a cliff in recent seasons, with only two goals collected last campaign for Sheffield United, the £0 capture of Ings will still be considered a coup, as the ex-Southampton marksman has 240 Premier League appearances under his belt, leading to 70 top-flight goals coming his way.

With Leicester's attacking ranks very sparse right now, too, during the early days of Russell Martin, Ings should be able to provide the third tier giants with some firepower, if he can recapture his goalscoring best at the King Power.

Martin could also fall back on a lot of homegrown products to boost his attacking ranks, with Kirsten Otchere already catching the eye this pre-season as a lethal hotshot.

Otchere's promising start to pre-season

Indeed, Otchere would open the scoring last time out against Bristol Rovers, with Foxes fans able to watch the exciting 19-year-old up close and personal, after the game against Northampton was played behind closed doors.

The sprinkling of Leicester shirts inside the Memorial Stadium got to see the teenager break the deadlock, as he capitalised on some indecisive Gas defending, to fire home a deflected effort past the Rovers goalkeeper.

After the game, alongside several other promising youngsters, Otchere would be praised for his runout by Leicestershire Live journalist Josh Holland, with the journalist specifically writing that the raw attacker's goal was able to "raise his confidence" after a goalless showing against the Cobblers.

Otchere will be dreaming of first-team chances being handed his way when the bread and butter of league action returns to the calendar, and Martin is well-known for being manager who takes pride in developing starlets. He turned Tyler Dibling into a £40m talent at Southampton, after all.

There's even a possibility next season, if he continues to find the back of the net and impresses the youth-focused Martin this off-season, that he could give the ageing Ings a run for his money in the starting XI.

Last season at the King Power proved that age is just a number, with Jeremy Monga lighting up the Championship in flashes with confident and assured performances at barely 16 years of age.

At 19, therefore, there will be no hestiation to bump Otchere into the senior picture, with the teen sensation a regular goalscorer already for both the U18s and U21s.

While Ings has been prone to frustrating goal-shy displays as of late, with only four league goals tucked away across his last three campaigns, Otchere has continued to be red-hot in front of goal, with 12 of his 26 strikes in the Leicester youth team coming about last season.

Of course, the major caveat here is that he has only bagged these goals at such a consistent rate in the bubble of the Premier League 2 and the U18 Premier League, with League One a far more challenging and taxing environment.

Ings' know-how of these stressful terrains wil be a major reason as to why he was picked up, softening his waning form subsequently.

But, if he enters the building and fluffs his lines over and over again, the call for Otchere to come into the first team could arrive, as a potential battle between an old hand attacker, and the new kid off the block fascinatingly plays out.
