While many vocal members of the Blue Army are cautious about Leicester City's choice of successive manager, yours truly for one, it seems as though the fans must simply get used to the idea. If anything, the most peculiar aspect of this supposedly imminent appointment is that, typically, Foxes chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, along with his henchman and King Power pet, LCFC chief football officer Jon Rudkin, appear to have chosen exactly what their support do not desire.
Evidently this is not the initial instance of that very situation occurring on Filbert Way even this year. A smaller yet still audible section of the LE2 fan base were not overly keen on Marti Cifuentes last year, either.
Former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper and ex-Aston Villa man Dean Smith were also immeasurably tone-deaf installations at King Power Stadium. It won't take this writer to point out why mediocre bosses from Midlands rivals would be unpalatable.
Why Leicester City want Russell Martin
Yet Russell Martin's negative reputation far exceeds those two examples. Foxes of Leicester cannot recall a Premier League gaffer more derided and criticised than when he oversaw Southampton. Rangers supporters appeared to cherish the Englishman's (who ironically played international football for Scotland) input even less so.
Online, a large portion of City fans have made their feelings clear: they don't want or understand the Martin move. Thankfully Mr trusty over at The Telegraph, John Percy, has informed everyone of the rationale behind this gamble
"Leicester have always admired Martin for his style of play which is a major attraction for the Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, the club’s owner and James McCarron, the newly appointed sporting director."The Telegraph
Percy cited Martin's rigid adherence to a possession-based philosophy Srivaddhanaprabha and James McCarron (sporting director) believe can be perfected in the East Midlands. The hierarchy clearly view this stylistic commitment as a long-term investment, previously citing the 'Enzo Maresca way' as inspiration.
Should Martin accept, an official announcement would surely emerge next week. Though the terraces remain unconvinced, Leicester's leadership seem entirely resolute.
