Leicester City: Riyad Mahrez Talks Continue Despite Arsenal Interest
Leicester City star midfielder Riyad Mahrez continues to give Foxes hope with more contract talks despite Arsenal interest
Leicester City have had a strong summer in the transfer market and for the most part have been able to hold onto their stars from last season’s rise to the summit of the English Premier League.
The transfer of N’Golo Kante to Chelsea earlier this month looked like it could spark the exodus of the Foxes key players, however, that trend has been bucked as Wes Morgan signed a new deal earlier this week and has been followed by Jamie Vardy, Andy King and Ben Chilwell in terms of committing their future to Leicester City.
Arsenal remain keen on the Algerian believed to be offering upwards of £40 million for his services as the Gunners look to once again try and bolster for a title run having fallen short yet again last season.
According to the Telegraph, Riyad Mahrez is believed to be in negotiation with Leicester City for a deal similar to that of Vardy’s four-year contract that would see Mahrez also on £100,000-a-week.
The Algerian International was sensational for manager Claudio Ranieri last season and he is expected to be a major focal point of the club’s plans for continued success in 2016-17 as the Foxes enter European action for only the fourth time in their history and their first time ever in the UEFA Champions League.
With 17 goals last season Mahrez was second on the scorers table for the club behind Vardy and his continued addition of goals and all important assists in 2016-17 is only likely to increase the value of the 25-year-old who is hitting what should be the peak years of his career.
