Leicester City’s Danny Simpson has now been snubbed twice in the space of a week prior to England’s World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.

England are suffering from injury set backs prior to their games against Malta and Slovenia, however Leicester City’s Danny Simpson looks set to miss out on a place for the second time in a week.

Many thought that Simpson’s exclusion from the England set-up was harsh after he was snubbed in order to allow the 32 year old Glen Johnson a place in the side.

Johnson received his call-up due to an injury set-back to Liverpool’s Nathaniel Clyne and looked set for a call-up following Johnson’s training injury which has now ruled him out of England’s World Cup qualifiers.

Leicester City’s right-back however has been pushed out of the picture in order to make way for the foxes’ summer target and Burnley centre-back Michael Keane.

After missing out on what may be his only chance of an England call-up, Danny is evidently frustrated and rightly so.

With Keane’s inclusion, Gareth Southgate’s first ever England squad includes potentially 5 centre-backs. To play Malta.

Leicester’s only player to be called up is the prolific Jamie Vardy.

This means that Danny Drinkwater, Danny Simpson and Marc Albrighton have all be over-looked.

Speaking before the squads were announced, Simpson said:

"“Listen, if that is the case (being selected for England) then it would be a dream come true. It would be an honour.”"

"“It is credit to the lads I am playing with at Leicester and everyone here if that is the case, but I am doing well for Leicester and if it happens it would be a dream come true.”"
