Leicester City: Zieler is relishing his opportunity to shine between the sticks
By Jake Cursley
Leicester City’s number two keeper is making the most of his opportunities to impress boss Claudio Ranieri during Schmeichel’s absence.
Leicester City’s goalkeeping pair have both shown their quality during the opening stage of this season in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

When Claudio Ranieri signed Ron-Robert Zieler most thought that the towering German would be playing as the foxes’ number two keeper behind Kasper Schmeichel.
Due to unfortunate injuries to Kasper, this has not been the case. Fortunately for Zieler however, he has shown his class between the sticks when called upon.
This quality has given Ranieri a lot to think about after Schmeichel picked up another injury (a broken hand) against Copenhagen which has seen him sidelined for at least another 3 weeks.
Zieler however is ready to step up yet again, speaking to the media he said:

"“I am very confident in myself”"
"“When I go out I try to show my best performance and I thought it was okay (against West Brom). I am looking forward to getting a few games now and I am determined to play well.”"
"“I know what I am capable of and I just try to do the best I can for the team so we can get some points. I want to show what I am capable of. I am just focused on myself now and not Kasper. I wish him all the best with his injury but I am focused on myself and my performances in the coming games.”"
Zieler hasn’t been firing on all cylinders so far however.
He had a great start to his Leicester City career with a substitute appearance against Swansea in their 2 – 1 victory. The win was in tricky conditions with the rain hammering down on the King Power, making Zieler’s job even harder.
Despite his good performances, he also conceded 4 goals in the League Cup to Chelsea, two of which were in extra-time.
Despite this, Claudio Ranieri has every faith in the German, speaking to the media he said:
"“I’m very confident with Zieler. Of course Kasper was in great condition but Zieler gives me confidence.”"
"“We want to keep going and improve in the table. We’re getting better but it’s not only the defenders. All the team are getting better with the fighting spirit.”"
