Leicester City’s Robert Huth has been ruled for up to two months after undergoing a minor ankle surgery.

The German was left out of Leicester City’s squad for the Premier League Asia Trophy in China and will soon begin the rehabilitation process.

Talking of his surgery, Craig Shakespeare had some good news for the fans. He said:

"“Robert reported back for pre-season and got into some discomfort with his ankle. He’s had an operation and thankfully it was successful.“It’s unfortunate for Robert but we thought it might be worse. We’re expecting him to be out for around six to eight weeks.”"

The German’s absence means Leicester City would now have to do without their experienced defended for quite a while.

As well as missing the all-important opening day fixture against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, the 32-year old may have to wait until late September, or even October to be considered fit to play.

Robert Huth’s injury could also pave the way for Yohan Benalouane, who has struggled for playing time at the King Power Stadium. The Tunisian only made 11 Premier League appearances last season  (25 overall), but that number may well rise up, given that Wes Morgan, now 33, can’t play week in and week out either.

The Frenchman has had a really tough time since joining Leicester City back in 2015 before sealing a loan move to AFC Fiorentina, where he couldn’t get a single game because of injury. However, the 30-year old’s fortunes could be about to take a turn in the Shakespeare era.

We’ll also have to wait and see if Shakespeare shifts his attention to a defender again. His side does look a bit short at the back, and there always being a possibility of another injury, a recognised centre-back might be a necessity.
