Chelsea are interested in signing Danny Drinkwater from Leicester City, according to Sky Sports.

The Foxes midfielder is one of a number of options that the English Champions are looking at following the departure of Nemanja Matic to Manchester United for £40 million.

Leicester City, however, are in no mood to let one of their key players go to Stamford Bridge and are likely to reject any offer for the 27-year old, who only signed a new contract the previous year.

Danny Drinkwater has arguably been the most important member of his side ever since they’ve been promoted to England’s top division. There has hardly been a game he hasn’t been picked in, and there hardly would be a game he won’t feature for the Foxes in as long as he stays.

The most recent player to have left Leicester City for Chelsea is N’Golo Kante, who departed last year for a hefty £30 million – we all know what happened next.

While Kante went on to win the Premier League title as well as the PFA Player of the Year award, Leicester City kept failing to replace the Frenchman all season, and it’s still not sure if they’ll find their lost man in new signing Vicente Iborra.

Leicester City would (and should) hope that Chelsea aren’t too serious about their pursuit of Danny Drinkwater, because if they are, then the lure of the Bridge would mean there’s only one winner. Among the Blues’ other options are Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Everton’s Ross Barkley.
