Leicester City sign promising young midfielder Tyrese Shade to two year deal

Leicester City won the Premier League thanks to some hidden gems they uncovered like Riyad Mahrez and N’golo Kante and the club hopes they have found another in Tyrese Shade. The 17-year-old central midfielder has spent the preseason on trial with the Foxes and put in an excellent showing against Walsall in July.

Shade played 25 minutes against The Saddlers, currently a League One side, and showed flashes of creativity and brilliance against players many years his senior. It was clearly enough for the Leicester City board to bring him on a permanent basis.

Shade came up through the Birmingham City academy and spent seven years with the Blues before released at the age of 15. He then spent the next season with Solihull Moors F.C., a semi-professional club founded in 2007 through the merger of Moor Green FC  and Solihull Borough FC that plays in the National League.

The Moors have a relationship with Birmingham City wherein the Blues’ reserve team plays at Solihull’s ground which likely lead to the easy switch for Shade. Now just a year removed from being released from the Birmingham academy he can call himself an official Leicester City player.

This career path is not uncommon for players who can start their careers at an official academy and then find themselves having to prove their worth in a semi-professional setting. A fantastic example of that is Jamie Vardy who started as a youth at Sheffield Wednesday then found himself bouncing around semi-pro teams before joining Leicester City in 2012.

So if young Tyrese Shade needs a role model, at least on the pitch, he can always look to Vardy who made the most of the opportunity given to him by Leicester City.
