Harry Maguire is optimistic about an England call-up following a move to Leicester City from Hull City.

The 24-year old was one of the best English centre-backs on show last season despite a campaign that saw Hull City relegated for the second time in three years.

Maguire made a total of 36 appearances across all competitions last season (29 in the Premier League), also netting three times and assisting as many, but his excellence failed to have any bearing on a miserable season for his side.

England are reported to have enquired about Harry Maguire’s availability during the summer, and that has had Leicester City’s £17 million man buzzing.

However, he doesn’t want to get carried away as he prepares for what could be a huge season for his career. Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said:

"“Fingers crossed. First and foremost I need a good season for Leicester, performing week-in, week-out, and touch wood, staying injury free. Then I’ll see where it takes me.“Personally, I haven’t had any contact from England. But in the summer they spoke to my physio and asked about my injury. They knew I was unavailable.“I don’t know whether or not I would have been involved. I want to play for my country.“To have that knowledge they are taking me into consideration does give you confidence.”"

Harry Maguire could very soon be the latest player from Leicester City to make a name for himself on the international stage after Jamie Vardy, Danny Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante recently saw their antics with Leicester being noticed by the national coaches.

While Drinkwater has been a bit unlucky to only feature three times for the Three Lions, Vardy and Kante have both been vital to England and France respectively and continue to be key players.

Although Leicester City will take a lot of pride in Harry Maguire’s England call-up, they’ll hope to have him back fully fit, as a lot of players tend to get injured when on international duty. Without him, God knows what poor Craig Shakespeare would do.
