AS Roma won’t be submitting any more offers for Riyad Mahrez, the club’s Sporting Director Monchi has confirmed.

The Italian side are now willing to play the waiting game to try and land their man, as they believe that the ball is in Leicester City’s court.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Roma were willing to offer as much as £36 million for Riyad Mahrez; however, it remains unsure if they formally submitted that offer.

AS Roma have previously submitted three formal bids (£20 million, £27 million, £32 million), all of which were rejected by Leicester City, who value the Algerian at £50 million.

Monchi has now made it be known that there’s no way the club are paying that much, as they have already offered what is a fair price. He said:

"“In the last press conference I said we had bid what we believe to be a fair offer, which is also the biggest in the club’s history.“We won’t bid again.“We’ve conducted ourselves in the right way by talking to Leicester City. Now the ball is in their court. We’re waiting for an answer.“We’re working on other options but we’re relaxed given our squad is 90 per cent complete.”"

As has been reported several times, Mahrez is still eyeing a switch across the country – not outside – but the lack of offers from any of the Premier League clubs has meant that the winger has had to reassess his options.

Spanish newspaper Sport recently revealed that Mahrez’s representatives have gone so far as to offer the Algerian to FC Barcelona, but they ruled out a move for him as well.

With about two weeks to go before the transfer window closes, it seems like Riyad Mahrez would have to stay at the King Power Stadium, and do even better to “earn” a move to a bigger club.

Leicester City play Brighton and Hove Albion next week in their first home game of the season.
