Leicester City defender Danny Simpson has said he is ‘gutted’ with his team’s start to the 2017/18 Premier League campaign.

The Foxes have only collected four points out of six games so far and sit a lowly 17th in the Premier League table. Craig Shakespeare’s men have earned one win in that time, with a 2-0 win against Brighton & Hove Albion coming in August. Their only other point came at the John Smith’s Stadium following a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town.

The East-Midlanders have, however, played four out of last season’s top five, with their performances, specifically against the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool, gaining praise. Simpson, though, says that the 2015/16 champions are disappointed having not put more points on the board. He said:

"“We are gutted.“We have played nearly all the big teams and we have got zero points. That is the fact of the matter but we have done well against them.“It is frustrating because we feel we should have more points against them. We have to learn and go again.”"

Leicester’s first six games of the campaign could very well be summed up in the 3-2 loss to Liverpool on Saturday evening. The Foxes went 2-0 down to the Reds early in the game at the King Power Stadium before rallying, thanks to a goal from Shinji Okazaki.

Jurgen Klopp’s men stretched the lead in the second half with Jordan Henderson finding the net. Jamie Vardy then made it 3-2 before he spurned the chance to equalise from the penalty spot.

Despite the losses, Simpson says that the East-Midlanders can take encouragement for the rest of the season.

"“There have to be positives to take from it and everyone is giving their all. We are coming off the pitch with absolutely nothing left.“We are going behind but battling back. We are giving ourselves the chance all the time to go on and at least get a point.“We have to take confidence and positives from how tough we are making it for these teams.”"

It could well be argued that the Foxes are giving the Premier League big-boys a real challenge with Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool all finding it difficult to earn a victory.

Leicester City, though, will have the chance to rectify their poor form in their upcoming fixtures. The calendar is considerably kinder with AFC Bournemouth, West Bromwich Albion and Swansea City all on the horizon.

Jamie Vardy will also be hoping to continue his excellent form in front of goal with his strike on Saturday afternoon taking his season tally up to five goals from six games.
