Riyad Mahrez is one of Leicester City’s own, according to club captain Wes Morgan.

The Algerian sent out a huge statement of his dedication to Leicester’s cause, as he scored a stunning free-kick from 30 yards at the 97th minute against AFC Bournemouth to earn his side a largely undeserved point at the King Power Stadium.

He then set off to celebrate with the rest of his Leicester City teammates and the managerial staff, almost as if he completely lost himself in the ebullience of the moment. It was utter pandemonium at the Foxes’ home, as Martin Tyler would have put it.

Like most of us, club captain Wes Morgan is convinced that Mahrez’s elation at the last minute goal is a reflection of the fact he is Leicester City player in the word’s truest sense. Speaking to the Leicester Mercury, he said:

"“Obviously, yes he is one of our players. He is no different really.“Anyone who scored that goal would have been the same celebrations.“Obviously, it was Riyad and you got to see the response.”"

Riyad Mahrez himself spoke of the tough time that he went through after his proposed move to Manchester City broke down. The 26-year old, however, has assured that being the professional that he is, he will keep giving everything for the club for as long as he is plying his trade here.

"“It was a difficult situation but, while I am here, I will give everything for the club – that’s how I am.“I was very pleased with the way the fans have been with me throughout this. It was important for me. That’s why I will keep giving everything for the club.“It’s for moments like this [the goal] that you play football. Never give up. It was brave but sometimes you have to be.”"

You have to praise Riyad Mahrez for not just reintegrating himself back into Leicester City but also maintaining the level of football that he had playing before his failed transfer. The Algerian might initially have chosen the wrong path, but it’s good to see him back to being a good professional and obviously a world-class player.
