Two Leicester City players have been named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad to face Netherlands and Italy this month.

The Lions’ boss has picked Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire in a 27-man squad that had a few surprises – namely Burnley’s James Tarkowski and Nick Pope, AFC Bournemoutj’s Lewis Cook and Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson – though the Leicester duo’s selection doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

Vardy, 31, has found the back of the net 16 times in 33 appearances across all competitions this season, including strikes against each of the top six, becoming the first player in the Premier League era to do so in one season in the process.

The Leicester City striker hasn’t disappointed on the international stage either, netting six goals in 19 appearances against Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Turkey, Wales and Lithuania. Quite the list.

Jamie Vardy’s Leicester and Sheffield mate Harry Maguire, on the other hand, has been in a league of his own at the back since his move from Hull City in the summer. The 25-year old has made three appearances for the Three Lions so far (Vs Germany, Brazil and Lithuania), helping his side keep a clean sheet in each of them.

We can expect Leicester City to produce more England players in the near future, with players like Ben Chilwell and Demarai Gray making giant strides forward under Claude Puel. While Chilwell has made 26 appearances this term, often impressing as a modern, aggressive full-back, Gray has made 35 appearances, too, scoring four goals and assisting two.
