Leicester City are reportedly targeting Manchester United’s Luke Shaw, according to Sports Ilustrated.

The 22-year old is visibly out of favour at Old Trafford, with Jose Mourinho taking him off at half-time in the 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion before publicly ripping into him.

The England international hasn’t taken the public criticism very well and is now wanting to leave Manchester United for a club where he is respected and trusted by the manager.

Luke Shaw’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, but United are likely to trigger an extension clause in his contract to ensure that they don’t have to sell their £30 million recruit on a free transfer.

Despite his possibly hefty price tag, Leicester City have joined Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea in the race for the former Southampton player. The Foxes have been on the look for a left-back for quite a while, with Christian Fuchs now ageing, and Ben Chilwell still some way off the required standard.

However, it’d take some effort from Leicester to beat Tottenham to Luke Shaw’s signature. United’s long-standing interest in Spurs left-back Danny Rose means that the possibility of a swap deal is wide open, and the North Londoners therefore are in the pole position to sign Shaw.

Luke Shaw arrived at the Theatre of Dreams with great expectations, and as one of England’s brightest young talents  – which he still is – but injuries, and now Jose Mourinho haven’t been really kind to him. A reflection of that is his number of appearances since his move in 2014/15: 62. Shocking.

He is still young, though, and the right manager can quite easily turn him into a world-class player.
