Leicester City stars named among the best of the lot by FourFourTwo
FourFourTwo has named Riyad Mahrez as the best player outside the Premier League’s top six in a 14-man list.
Forward Jamie Vardy follows his Algerian teammate at second position, while midfield sensation Wilfred Ndidi is placed sixth.
The Leicester City trio has been immense all season, with all three contributing significantly to whatever success their side has enjoyed in their campaign.
Mahrez, who has been linked to a new club everyday since the summer transfer window, hasn’t let the speculation get to him since the initial drama after the January transfer window and the last-minute Manchester City bid. He has instead used the failed transfers as inspiration to further improve on all fronts and to make the most of his abilities.
As a result, he has managed ten goals and eight assists in 30 Premier League appearances this season. Those numbers are remarkable by anyone’s standards.
And just as good is Jamie Vardy’s goal tally in the league this season with 16 strikes to his name. Only Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Mohamed Salah have scored more than him and he hasn’t had the benefit of a dubious goal or two being wrongly credited to him.

None of them, however, match Vardy’s incredible record against the top six. The 31-year old has found the net at least once against each of the big six this term, becoming the only player in Premier League history to do so. Beat that if you can.

Of course, Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez’s exploits up front are down to Wilfred Ndidi’s antics in the middle of the park, too. Ndidi leads the Premier League in tackles with 129 and has even chipped in two goals and four assists from his deep position. He also leads the league in fouls with 60 but that’s to be expected for a player that’s always in the mix of things.
The Nigerian has arguably been the best defensive midfielder in England with the stats to back up that claim, earning high praise from pundits and fans all around the globe in the process. Don’t be surprised to see him placed higher in the list next time around.
