Leicester City could finally snap up their long-term target Jonny Evans this summer, according to an exclusive report from The Sun.

With West Bromwich Albion set to be relegated to the Sky Bet Championship, City can buy the Baggies’ captain for a mere £3 million because of the relegation safety clause in his current contract.

It’d be an unbelievably good coup – at least on the financial front – shall they manage to pull it off, given that at one stage last summer, Leicester City were ready to pay as much as £23 million for the former Manchester United player.

To be able to now buy him for £20 million less, therefore, would mean that they have more funds to invest in other areas. However, it remains to be seen if Arsenal and Manchester City are still interested in the Northern Ireland international.

The Premier League giants have been linked with the 30-year old since last summer, and both have been willing to pay big money for his services. Now that money is not an issue at all, it’d be easier for them to convince him, making it slightly complicated for Leicester City to land their man.

A lot will depend on Claude Puel’s future, too. With the Frenchman looking set to be sacked by the board in the coming weeks, it can’t be said if the next manager – whoever that may be – would want Jonny Evans.

And the same can be said of the fans, who are sure to be divided over Evans’ pursuit.
