Robert Huth is prouder of the great Leicester City escape in the 2014/15 season than he is of the Premier League title win a year later.

Signed on loan from Stoke City in the winter transfer window of 2015, the German arrived to help Leicester avoid relegation. Placed 20th at the time, the Foxes’ fate seemed seemed all but sealed; however, they had other plans in mind.

Starting with a 2-0 win over West Ham United on the 4th of March, Nigel Pearson’s side then went on a run of seven wins in nine games, with their only defeat coming against champions Chelsea.

Here’s a cursory look at what is probably the most important run of games in Leicester City’s history, made possible by one of the most important signings in the club’s history:

Leicester City 2-1 West Ham United

West Bromwich Albion 2-3 Leicester City

Leicester City 2-0 Swansea City

Burnley 0-1 Leicester City

Leicester City 1-3 Chelsea

Leicester City 3-0 Newcastle United

Leicester City 2-0 Southampton

Sunderland 0-0 Leicester City

Leicester City 5-1 Queens Park Rangers

Following his contribution to the survival, Leicester City signed him on a permanent basis, and little did the German know that he’d go on to win the Premier League with this club from the East Midlands.

As well as standing as firmly as the Berlin Wall, Huth scored a few important goals, too, most memorably a brace against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, which was the day when Leicester really made it clear that they were here to win the title.

Having bid farewell to the club, Huth has a lot of achievements to look back on and be proud of; however, the one that he is the proudest of is helping his side avoid relegation. Speaking to Leicester City’s official website, he said:

"“It means absolutely everything if you look back on it, really,” Huth said of his time at Leicester City.“I never would have thought we’d achieve as much as we did. Certainly, when I first signed on loan, it was very much unknown about the Club’s future until we avoided relegation to stay in the league so to be here now with what we’ve achieved is absolutely awesome.“I’m almost a little bit prouder than when we won the league because we were so far adrift from safety. At times it was tough to see where the points were coming from but all of a sudden, we hit form and we kept winning games.“Although we weren’t safe at one point, it always felt like we’d be able to do it with four or five games to go because the atmosphere was so good and we started to play really well."

"“We were winning both home and away games, which we didn’t do at the start of the season. It was Sunderland away where we clinched it, but I personally felt really safe two or three games before that because we were just in really good form.“I was thankful that I had the opportunity to play for Leicester. At the time, I had just come back from injury and there weren’t many clubs that were interested, so it was an absolute no-brainer when Leicester came calling, regardless of their position. I just wanted to play football, so I was extremely grateful when they gave me the chance to come here.”"
