Leicester City are in negotiations with West Bromwich Albion to sign Jonny Evans for £3 million, according to the Leicester Mercury.

The Baggies’ relegation has triggered the release clause in Evans’ contract; however, his agent is reportedly demanding £4 million as fee for the deal to be completed, which is more than what they’d be paying to West Brom for their man.

£7 million shouldn’t be much of a problem for Leicester City, though, as they are known to have tabled a £23 million bid for the former Manchester United defender last summer.

As well as being a ridiculous offer for the 30-year old, it does show that the interest is concrete, and that the Foxes should be able to get it over the line in the coming days.

The deal was a bit complicated up until the January transfer window because of Manchester City and Arsenal’s interests in the Northern Ireland international, but the big boys haven’t made any approach since, leaving the path all clear for Leicester City.

Jonny Evans will become Claude Puel’s second signing of the summer after FC Porto’s Ricardo Pereira, who is understood to have flown to the UK for a medical.

The 24-year old right-back will sign a five-year contract with the club, his fee being £17.5 million, which can rise up to £22 million because of the £4.5 million in add-ons.

We can expect maybe a couple more defensive signings from Puel before he looks to bolster his options in central midfield and up front, where Riyad Mahrez’s future is yet to be sorted. The boss is off to a good start, though.
