Ricardo Pereira is set to have his Leicester City medical, as he has flown to the UK to complete his £22 million move to the King Power Stadium.

Claude Puel – who it seems has been given the assurance he needed – and company were eager to get the deal done before the World Cup, with the Portugal international due to catch up with his national team very soon.

As has been reported by the Portuguese outlet A Bola, Ricardo Pereira’s will be a five-year contract, with his £22 million fee including £4.5 million in add-ons.

It has also been stated that Puel played a huge part in the 24-year old’s decision to come to Leicester City, as the two had previously worked together during the Frenchman’s successful tenure at OGC Nice, which is when Pereira really went a level up.

The FC Porto right-back has made 43 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring two goals and assisting seven. Those numbers do prove that he’d be an upgrade on Danny Simpson, who isn’t much of a threat going forward.

The 31-year old has only gone downhill this season, his performance against Tottenham Hotspur in particular reflecting the need for a young full-back on the right side.

The age being on his side, Pereira isn’t only a long-term option but someone who still has a lot of scope to improve. As we’ve seen with so many young players under Claude Puel, the FC Porto right-back could make decent strides forward after his arrival – shall it come.
