Atletico Madrid are planning a stunning move for Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, as Diego Simeone looks to replace the outgoing Antoine Griezmann.

In a particularly shocking report by the Mirror, it has been revealed the UEFA Europa League winners have their eyes set on the Foxes’ main man, and they’d be willing to pay around £20 million for the 32-year old.

Their interest comes as a result of Griezmann (off to FC Barcelona) and Fernando Torres (free agent) both leaving the club, which would leave Simeone with plenty to do to add to his options up front.

The Argentine is said to have been impressed by what he saw from Jamie Vardy when his side beat Leicester City 2-1 on aggregate in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final last season.

Apart from scoring the equaliser in the second leg, the England international proved to be difficult to control for the Atletico Madrid backline, something that we don’t say too often.

Needless to say, Vardy’s performance must have left some mark if indeed Simeone is eyeing him as a replacement for someone as good as Antoine Griezmann. However, it won’t be easy for them to lure the former Fleetwood Town forward away, judging by how stubborn Leicester City are when it comes to selling their best, and how loyal has Vardy himself been.

They’ve shown in recent times that they aren’t really a club that gives up too easily, especially in the case of someone as important as Jamie Vardy, who has previously been eyed by Arsenal, too.

Could we be about to see another ugly transfer saga? You never know.
