Chelsea and AS Roma are interested in Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, according to Sky Sports.

The two clubs might be in the market for a new shotstopper later this summer, with the Blues’ Thibaut Courtois and Roma’s Alisson Becker looking increasingly likely to leave.

And it seems like Kasper Schmeichel has immediately caught the attention of the two European giants with one of the great goalkeeping displays at the World Cup.

The Leicester City man was the star of the show against Croatia despite Denmark’s penalty shoot-out defeat (3-2). He denied Luka Modric from the spot late into extra-time before making a couple more saves in the shoot-out.

Chelsea’s penchant for a Leicester player is nothing new. The West Londoners have bought N’Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater over the last two seasons already, while they’ve also been long-term admirers of Jamie Vardy. AS Roma, too, are on record as one of the clubs to have failed in their pursuit of Riyad Mahrez.

After Kasper Schmeichel’s display last night, it is hard to not worry about his future at the King Power Stadium. He has been consistently among the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, often saving his side’s blushes with robotic saves.

However, he has never really got the credit he deserves. While a move to a big club would be well-earned, it would put Leicester City into a lot of trouble.

They’ve barely had to worry about a goalkeeper in recent times, and if they lose the Danish international now, Claude Puel would have another tough job on his hands.
