Former Leicester City defender Robert Huth is in talks with Aston Villa, according to Leicestershire Live.

Having left the King Power Stadium after almost four years of high-class service, the 33-year old is now in search of a new challenge to write the perfect outro to his remarkable career – and he could do that at Villa Park.

The Championship side are understood to have met the German’s representatives, but there is some way to go before a deal can be struck.

The Villans aren’t quite sure if they can afford to pay Robert Huth’s wages as they find themselves in Financial Fair Play’s circle of fire. They still need more than £40 million to be able to meet the FFP rules, the failure to do which will mean that they are in huge, huge trouble.

Their star player Jack Grealish, a Leicester City target, has been seen as the solution to the problems because of his value in the current market.

They’ve already made it clear that he isn’t going to be sold for anything under £40 million, and if they do manage to get that amount, then the financial woes will, for now, leave them alone. It’ll also pave the way for Robert Huth to join Aston Villa.

The former Stoke City defender would be a good signing for Steve Bruce. As well as being an experienced footballer at the international and domestic level, he is no stranger to a leadership role either. Even if for a year, Villa will hugely benefit from his qualities.
