AZ Alkmaar winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh is set to undergo his Leicester City medical, according to Iranian outlet Vananews.

The Iran international has reportedly flown into Leicester in Vicchai Srivaddhanprabha’s private jet, and could soon be signed for £19.4 million. Remember, Steve Bruce doesn’t think that amount can buy Jack Grealish’s right leg.

Jahanbakhsh, who plies his trade in the Eredivisie, scored 22 goals and assisted 14 in 39 appearances last season. Regardless of the ease with which his opponents in Netherlands may have let those goals in, that’s still an impressive tally, and one that does require some skill – and acquire some money, too.

But Leicester City, if the reports are to anything to be read into – which they generally aren’t – are set to land the 24-year old for a mere £19.4 million. That is not even a third of what they got paid for Riyad Mahrez.

So what does Claude Puel do with the £41 million that he is left with? Of course, he can save it for when the crisis finally shows up at the King Power Stadium in January, but why not avoid it now with a central midfielder?

The Foxes were short of players who could do something of note from the middle of the park, and it would be pretty wise to address that shortage right now. That way, Vicente Iborra, Adrien Silva, Matty James and cult hero Andy King could avoid a lot of flak as well.

It may all benefit Hamza Choudhury, Harvey Barnes and Daniel Amartey in one way or the other, but that prospect isn’t really appealing. Not to Wilfred Ndidi anyway.
