Leicester City’s owners learned their lesson after losing eventual World Cup winner and the best defensive-midfielder in history, N’golo Kante, to Chelsea for £32m. There is no buy-out clause in Harry Maguire’s contract.

New contracts between four and five-years for Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel, Wilfred Ndidi, Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire inspired the Blue Army to dream big. Especially since the style change at the King Power Stadium seemingly took shape, although the Foxes were tactically inept as Bournemouth thrashed them.

Maguire signing a new deal with a five-year length is ultimately the most significant piece of business by Leicester City since signing James Maddison or keeping Jamie Vardy from Arsenal’s clutches in 2016.

In relation to his new deal, the 6-foot-four defender says:

"“I wanted to play for this club and I’m looking forward to the future.”– Harry Maguire (Via: Sky Sports)"

England centre-back Maguire also stated a move to Manchester United was never likely.

Leicester Mercury reported over the weekend that Maguire does not have a buy-out stipulated in his new deal. They also speculate his lack of a preseason rest or routine and playing every minute for club and country has damaged the Englishman’s playing form.

Kante debacle

Leicester City gained the future best defensive-minded-midfielder in N’golo Kante for £8.1m in 2015. However, Chelsea then managed to prise away the relentless player for £32m, because of an illadvised release clause. Possibly around half the amount the Foxes could expect.

To King Power and Leicester chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha it was a complete disaster that the Frenchman was sold so ‘cheap’. The word is, heads at the East Midlands club nearly rolled, and it emerged no clause will be added in future.

All over today’s social media is: “Sky Sports News understands the issue of a buy-out clause was one of the key sticking points, with the club adamant one would not be included in the new deal.”

Claude Puel described Maguire as Leicester City’s best player. Time will tell if ‘no price’ puts Jose Mourinho and United off the in demand centre-back. A £60m bid was apparently rejected in August.

In addition, it is slightly concerning that Leicester City manager Puel was unaware of the specifics of the Kante debacle. Not to mention being in the dark over Maguire‘s contract’s important details – just four days ago. Both outcomes mean Puel is not privy to certain information, or, he is not interested.

Either will not inspire faith or support in Puel at the club. However, his long-term project is worth pursuing. Consequently, the gaffer requires players of the 25-year-old’s calibre in order to complete his overhaul of Leicester City into a classy possession side – whom, hopefully, can keep a clean sheet.
