Christian Fuchs was at it against Crystal Palace

We really need to talk about Christian Fuchs’ display against Crystal Palace. On an evening when most of the players struggled to even pass the ball well, Fuchs, in his first league game of the season, was easily the best player on the pitch. That he didn’t let Leicester miss Ben Chilwell speaks volumes of how good he was.

For the skeptics, here are the numbers doing the talking:

Total passes: 57

Passes completed: 50

Key passes: 2

Accurate long balls: 3

Crosses: 1

Tackles: 2

Clearances: 2

Interceptions: 1

For a 32-year old who’s set to leave next season, that is a pretty solid showing. Mind, Selhurst Park is never an easy place to go to – it certainly wasn’t today because of the bone-chilling weather. Had Leicester won, Fuchs would have been baptised with appreciation.

He would probably be benched next week for the clashes against Manchester City and Chelsea, but if Puel has even the slightest of doubt about Chilwell’s fitness, then he can rely upon the old man to do a job.
