Hamza Choudhury should start more often

When a 21-year old oozes magnificence on his first league start of the season and that too at the Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, you, being Claude Puel, would risk making yourself look a clueless doofus who watched on giddily from the touchline if you don’t instate him – or at least try to – as a regular feature of the playing XI.

Hamza Choudhury was beyond doubt one of the reasons behind the 1-0 win, making three tackles, as many interceptions, a couple of clearances and a key pass in what was a fine defensive effort in particular. His passing accuracy – completed 18 of his 25 passes – wasn’t quite upto the standards, but that’s more or less understandable, given that these are still early days and he is still developing. Remember how Wilfred Ndidi has improved his distribution in the last two seasons?

It may come across as a bit of a shock, but Saturday wasn’t the first time this week that Choudhury shone in the middle of the park, with his display against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup quarter-final turning many important heads. He was good that night, and he was even better in the subsequent appearance.

As the Citizens face Leicester at home again this Wednesday, dropping Choudhury shouldn’t even be an option for Puel.
