There’s some good news for Claude Puel but some bad news for those who want him out of Leicester City.

Puel is no longer the favourite to be the next manager sacked in the Premier League, with the 6-0 trouncing of Chelsea taking Maurizio Sarri to the no.1 spot – as per Oddschecker – in the race to be shown the exit door. His odds currently stand at 6/4.

At 3/1, Puel now sits second on the “Sack League” table, while Marco Silva (5/2) – once in the running to be the next Leicester manager – and former Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri (14/1) take up the rest of the spots.

This sack race is really going to go down to the wire if you vet both Leicester and Chelsea’s fixture list.

The former next play Crystal Palace, Brighton and Hove Albion in the next couple of weeks – they didn’t beat any of those two in the reverse fixtures and would certainly not this time either because that’s what Puel’s Leicester do.

On the other hand, the Blues play Manchester United in the FA Cup fifth round, Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League in addition to playing Malmo twice in the UEFA Champions League – all before the end of February.

Maybe it is not going to go down to the wire, and Sarri is going to fall into the premature sacking mire. If you are in the “Puel Out” brigade, you just have to accept the fact that Chelsea’s fixture list is better for sacking purpose. Five games in the space of 14 days is elite.
