James Maddison wowed the Leicester City faithful with a David Beckham-esque free-kick Vs Burnley. There were two other touching moments from the playmaker on the day too.

10-man Leicester City dup deep for a stunning victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday. Team players, an adjusted game plan and mental toughness all shone for the Foxes.

Captain Wes Morgan replaced the sacrificed Demarai Gray, as Harry Maguire saw red after three minutes. His dismissal came after a clumsy, unorthodox challenge on the Clarets’ Johann Berg Gudmundsson who was through on goal.

Morgan played an important part in clearing dangerous situations successfully with minimal touches on the ball – probably for the best for everyone. His main contribution was inexplicably scoring the winner in the dying moments of the Premier League clash. Brilliant stuff! Well done him for proving people like this writer wrong, a bit.

Yet it was James Maddison who provided the most impressive and cinematic moment as he beautifully curled in a David Beckham-esque – or a James Maddison-style free-kick – putting the visitors ahead. This despite manager Brendan Rodgers admitting afterwards that his player was ill the previous night and on the morning of the game.

The 21-year-old celebrated his wonderful finish with a touching tribute to his friend Super Strong Sophie. Sophie Taylor was a Norwich fan who tragically passed away from cancer.

Refereeing the Burnley versus Leicester City match was Michael Oliver. If a player removes his playing shirt during the contest after netting, it’s an automatic yellow card. Oliver duly dished out the punishment to the Foxes playmaker. To be honest, Oliver has no choice. Although some people will find Maddison being booked in bad taste.

However, the fact that the adjudicator offered his sympathies to the former Canary was very personable in itself, in an obviously awkward situation for the ‘ref’. Maddison correctly added on social media that Oliver shouldn’t be treated badly for his decision.

Leicester Mercury explain the situation:

"Maddison was cautioned for his celebration after netting the curling set-piece 33 minutes in for removing his shirt, contravening Law 12."

There should arguably be exceptions made in cases of bereavement. Maybe club and player representatives could briefly meet Premier League executives and have this silly scenario amended. There seems to be no harm whatsoever in commemorating a friend or loved one in this manner.
