Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers thinks there’s still a lot of room for improvement in Ben Chilwell – which is “the beauty with him”.

Chilwell is enjoying his finest season as a footballer yet, not only putting his case forward as Leicester’s player of the year but the Premier League’s young player of the year as well.

While the fans are already in awe of the things he is upto when marauding up and down the flanks – sometimes coming inside – Rodgers, though just as excited and awe-inspired, feels there’s more to come.

Speaking of the 22-year old, the gaffer said:

"“I think what he has brought into the first team is a lot of natural ability, great speed, he is very gifted, has great power and a great temperament, but I still feel there are one or two more gears he can go through in his game, which is great because you don’t just want him to be a good player, you want him to be a top player.“We have spoken on a number of things he can get better at, but he is a really exciting talent.“From my chats with him he is a great boy.“The beauty with him is there is still a lot of improvement in him.”"

There’s an increasingly growing feeling in and around the King Power Stadium that Chilwell will be leaving in the summer, but Rodgers is not worried about that. For him, it’s normal for talented young players to be attracted to the prospect of playing for a big club so early.

"“Ideally that is the idea, you want to keep them because they have broken into the team and have had great experience from being in an environment where hopefully they are happy,” he explained.“But of course it will always be the ambition of the player depending on what they want to do.“I tend not to worry about that. We all know how the game works. You have to stay in the moment and focus on them.“They are enjoying themselves and are working hard, and playing well, and they see a possibility to get even better.”"

As we understand, Chilwell’s move to Manchester City is as good as done, and if the left-back does indeed leave for the Etihad Stadium, it would be a major coup for Pep Guardiola.

But it will be just as big a loss for Rodgers, unless, of course, Kieran Tierney, who Leicester are looking at as Chilwell’s replacement, arrives in the Premier League in sensational style.

That is all to be discussed in the summer, though – and only when Chilwell’s transfer is official. Till then, let us enjoy what the England international has to offer to the club. Who knows how long we can cherish his brilliance for?
