Would David Neres be the perfect signing for Leicester City this summer?
By Matt Taylor
Leicester City are still yet to find a concrete replacement for Riyad Mahrez. Could Ajax’s £35 million-rated winger David Neres be the answer?
The 22-year-old continued his fine form, as he scored a scintillating equaliser within a minute of play resuming in Ajax’s Champions League quarter-final tie at home to Juventus. With 11 goals and ten assists in all competitions this season, Neres was awarded his first senior cap for Brazil as a substitute against the Czech Republic. Additionally, Premier League clubs like Leicester City will be monitoring.
According to the Telegraph, Arsenal and Everton have expressed interest in signing the midfielder this summer, for a touted fee of €40 million (£34.5 million). Neres, a left-footed right-winger, could be the marquee signing that City fans have sought since their Algerian hero departed for Manchester City last July.
After underwhelming showings from both Demarai Gray and Harvey Barnes in the Foxes’ recent defeat to Newcastle United, new boss Brendan Rodgers could make signing a winger this summer a priority.

The Brazilian’s stats this season underline the quality that he would bring to Leicester, averaging 1.9 completed dribbles and 1.1 key passes per game, via WhoScored. Comparatively, proven Premier League winger, Leroy Sane, has averaged two dribbles and 1.4 key passes per game. Meanwhile, Neres’ apparent tenacity is outlined by his average of 1.1 tackles per game. A trait that would surely endear him with the Leicester faithful.
With Ajax reaching the last eight of Europe’s elite competition for the first time since the 2002/03 season, Neres has proved to be a key component in this monumental Champions League campaign, which may still see the Dutch champions progress to the Semi finals.
Therefore, this writer firmly believes that Leicester should be competing with Arsenal and Everton to sign the Brazilian star, who looks a real bargain at £35 million when you consider that his fellow countryman, Richarlison cost the same amount.
