Why Jarrod Bowen should be a transfer priority for Leicester City this summer
By Matt Taylor
Since the departure of Riyad Mahrez left a goal-scoring vacuum out wide for Leicester City, they have searched for a marquee winger to fill such a void. This player potentially fills the gap.
Hull City’s star player this season, Jarrod Bowen, undoubtedly fits this bill. With 22 goals and four assists registered this season, the 22-year-old could be the man to step into the role of goal-scoring right winger (with a wand of a left foot) for Leicester City.
According to Leicester Mercury, the Foxes are reportedly ‘weighing up a £15 million move’ for the Tigers’ midfielder, who appeared in all 46 league games of their campaign, as they finished 12th in the Championship.
In the context of the lucrative landscape of modern football, £15 million can be considered a modest fee for a young Englishman with a superb scoring record, especially in a competitive league such as England’s second tier. The deal makes sense financially, as Leicester’s funds should primarily be spent on the on-loan Youri Tielemans this summer.
The last recruit from the championship making a move to the Championship, a certain James Maddison, made the step up to the Premier League seem effortless. If Bowen can replicate this impact, and this writer believes that he can, it would negate the need for an expensive, foreign import such as Hakim Ziyech or Ismaila Sarr, who may struggle initially in the English game and cost significantly more money.

In terms of stats, Bowen has averaged 1.4 dribbles per game and one key pass, via WhoScored, while outscoring any other wingers in the division. Also, Hull City’s exports have a habit of succeeding in the Premier League, with notable examples being Leicester’s own, Harry Maguire and Andrew Robertson of Liverpool.
Overall, signing Bowen seems relatively risk-free, or about as risk free as a multi-million pound transfer can ever be. The 22-year-old would join a cohort of young, exciting talents at the King Power and, above all, add goals to help out the talismanic Jamie Vardy next season.
