Ruben Loftus-Cheek

With regard to Chelsea’s transfer ban, they are not permitted to register new players until the summer of 2020. This implies that they are still allowed to sell their plethora of stars, should they want to.

Since his successful loan spell at Crystal Palace earned him an England call-up, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has sought a consistent spot in the starting XI at Stamford Bridge. However, he has found himself low on the pecking order behind the likes of N’golo Kante and international peer, Ross Barkley.

The 23-year-old is yet another example of a talented youngster being out of favour at Chelsea, who seem to place no faith in their outstanding academy graduates. Instead, they continuously loan players out, before selling them on. Leicester must capitalise on Loftus-Cheek’s current unsettled situation and give him a guaranteed starting spot in a promising side.

If City were able to pull off this deal, they would add another flourishing, young talent to their already strong English cohort. Signing the 23-year-old would provide them with a strong yet direct midfielder who is certainly cut from the same cloth as Youri Tielemans.

The England international has ten goals and six assists in all competitions this campaign, including in the Europa League, a competition that City have certainly set their sights on qualifying for next season.

Due to the complications stemming from Chelsea’s transfer ban, this would be a difficult deal to complete. However, the quality that the England international would bring to Leicester’s midfield would make such a tricky transfer worthwhile.

A cheap alternative to Chelsea’s midfielder would be to take Mason Mount on loan next season. The youngster has shone in the Championship for Derby County, but will return to Chelsea this summer.
