With Arjen Robben leaving Bayern Munich this summer, many clubs will be monitoring him. Although, apparently no Premier League big six sides are interested – Leicester City should pounce.

‘Bookmakers rarely get things wrong’: obviously Leicester City disproved that old adage, with their terrifically shocking and inspiring 5000-1 odds Premier League triumph. Yet the maxim is certainly still relevant with regards to transfer speculation.

Currently Leicester City are favourites with the bookies to capture the signature of one of modern football’s greatest wingers, Arjen Robben. During his prime it would have seemed fanciful to wish for or expect the signing of such a professional on Filbert Way. But times, they are changing.

Of course the Dutch legend is now 35-years-old. However, he would be a fine addition at King Power Stadium, even as a backup. Although there is definitely a space yet to be filled on the right-wing. There is no undoubtedly automatic starter in that position at the very least.

Marc Albrighton will no doubt be enduring less of a certain role for the Foxes this coming campaign. Not to mention the frustration the faithful feel towards the constantly disappointing Demarai Gray. The Young Lion has everything required to make it at top-level – barring possibly the mental concentration and maturity of commitment to become a top pro. The less said about – the sure to depart – Rachid Ghezzal, the better.

This situation absolutely leaves a Robben-shaped gap in Brendan Rodgers’ team. And Foxes of Leicester think the Northern Irishman would be daft not to consider the option – unless Robben wants ridiculous wages. To be fair, in the previous three Bundesliga seasons Robben has supplied 14 assists, along with providing 22 goals. That was only in 59 league matches.

Even if the former Netherlands winger isn’t fit or good enough to retain a place all season he can provide help, assurance, expertise, imagination, support and experience from the sideline and dressing room. Similar to Wes Morgan.

On the subject of the prospective free transfer, Daily Mail say:

"Leicester City have been installed as favourites to sign Arjen Robben on a free transfer following a flurry of bets placed with bookmakers.Robben will leave Bayern upon the expiry of his contract this summer and his final appearance could come in the German Cup final this weekend against RB Leipzig.Leicester are 2/1 favourites with oddschecker to be his next destination, ahead of his former club in Holland, PSV Eindhoven.Earlier in May, Robben said he could even retire upon leaving Bayern.‘It is an option, but I don’t know whether it will happen,” Robben was quoted as saying by the BBC.‘It is not an easy decision to make. If you decide that you are going to keep playing, you have to find a place where everything is just right, not just in terms of football but also for my family.’"

So the likelihood is high of seeing the Bayern man at Leicester City. He should fit perfectly into Rodgers’ system as a spritely, imaginative and supremely skilled veteran wingman.
