Brighton and Hove Albion reportedly agree deal for Leicester City target Lewis Dunk’s replacement
Brighton and Hove Albion have agreed a deal for Leicester City target Lewis Dunk’s replacement, according to Teamtalk.
It is understood that Seagulls boss Graham Potter – who replaced Chris Hughton earlier this summer – has been able to secure Portsmouth’s Matt Clarke for £6 million.
That’s hardly a quarter of what Leicester are going to have to pay for Dunk. As per the reports, the Foxes must pay upwards of £30 million for the centre-back, which would make him the club’s record signing.
And as part of this chain reaction, Harry Maguire will be leaving the King Power Stadium in an £80 million deal that’ll see him become the world’s most expensive defender.
Manchester City and Manchester United are both locked in a battle for the England international, and both are apparently willing to pay that sum. Rich guys.
Maguire, however, wants to be playing for the English champions and will reject any approach from United. Serves to demonstrate how the mighty have fallen, doesn’t it?
The Citizens are also interested in left-back Ben Chilwell, another one of Leicester’s prized possessions who every top six side wants to have.
Like Maguire, the 22-year old would not come cheap. If you want him, you’ll have to pay at least £50 million. Gentle reminder: Cristiano Ronaldo cost Real Madrid £80 million in 2009.
Chilwell’s transfer seems less likely than Maguire, though. The Leicester Mercury report that he has made his intentions to stay very clear, as has James Maddison. But as we’ve seen before, one formal offer from a big club can change things.
