Foxes of Leicester have systematically assessed 2018/19’s relegated Premier League players in order to suggest any that may be viable signings for Leicester City.

There are always some possibly lost gems as a season reaches its climax. This Premier League campaign is no different with some exceptional talent dropping a division: Ryan Sessegnon, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Jean Michaël Seri, all at Fulham.

Though Mitrovic’s form decreased in quality as the term progressed; he also exhibits a distinct personal worth making him, generally, a bad fit for the Foxes. Sessegnon will probably go to Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United or somewhere, for now, above Leicester’s echelon. Seri had a tough time so he would be a true gamble.

However, either of these two midfielders may be ideal for Brendan Rodgers’ side as reasonably valued backup: Cardiff City loanee from Real Betis, Victor Camarasa. Or Huddersfield Town’s Aaron Mooy.

If Youri Tielemans is not signed – a potential disaster for the club’s aspirations – the strength in depth is still required. There is also the possibility of one the aforementioned prospective incomings stepping up and providing similar output to Tielemans. Maybe.

At the beginning of the month Examiner claimed that Leicester City are interested in the Terriers’ playmaker. The Australian signed for £10 Million, and is thought to be available for around £15M.

In all honesty, in contemporary times this fee seems fair for Mooy – a World Cup competitor who is proficient at elite level. Yet his displays were not as good in his sophomore premiership campaign.

Camarasa could be available for another loan, with Filbert Way a fitting destination. His play is compatible to Rodgers’; a wily midfield contender. In addition the Spaniard provided nine goal contributions in 32 league outings with the Bluebirds.

While his club, Betis, are yet to make a decision on his future. There are other top-flight English sides linked to Camarasa: Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Everton; according to Daily Mail.

Statistics and suiting the system

Obviously this proposed pair are both particularly proficient on the ball: Mooy whose perfected craft took him briefly to Manchester City. Whilst Camarasa has quintessential Spanish technique, technicality and flair. These attributable fit the double advanced midfield role.

In comparison with playmaker James Maddison’s superb Leicester City campaign on average – the Australia international and Spanish player look decent. Maddison provided: 2.8 key passes, completed 1.4 dribbles and had an 84.4% pass rate; stats from WhoScored.

Mooy’s stats in the same areas were: 1.5 key; 0.8 dribbles; 80.2% passes. Whilst Camarasa offered: 1.6 key; 1.1 dribbles; his 75.1 pass % leaves much to be desired though he is more adventurous.

Statistically, Mooy was as previously mentioned not his usual productive self in 2018/19: three goals and one assist from 29 appearances. However, if Leicester’s depth is to improve, these can be squad players – and certainly examples which improve on recent off-season peripheral buys!
