Manchester City are set to sign Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire for £65 million, according to the Daily Star.

The Citizens have even fixed the date for the 26-year old’s medical, meaning that the move could go through quicker than everyone expected it to.

The Daily Star also report that Manchester United had a £40 million bid (what were they even thinking?) rejected for Maguire last week.

It is really hard to believe that the Red Devils actually placed that bid, considering that Leicester haven’t entertained offers of even £60 million for the defender since the start of the last season.

And just as hard it is to believe that City are getting the England international for just £65 million after all the talk about the Foxes wanting at least a record £80 million.

We shall find out soon if the report is true, but if it is, then you have to wonder what made Leicester sell him for that price.

It’s not that Maguire is nearing the end of his contract. He still has four more years remaining on his current deal, so Leicester are in as strong a position to negotiate as they ever have been.

If Maguire is indeed sold for that much, it would also bring down Ben Chilwell’s valuation a fair bit. His quoted price is somewhere around £60 million.

With Maguire leaving for £65 million, there is no way you are getting anything over £50 million for the left-back, a shame given that Crystal Palace would make at least £20 million more from the sale of their star man Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
