Leicester City shouldn’t accept bids less than £75m for Harry Maguire
If a bid emerges for Harry Maguire above Virgil Van Dijk’s record £75 million fee, Leicester City should accept it. If a bid that size doesn’t materialise, the Foxes should keep the defender.
There has been many rumours this week concerning Leicester City defender Harry Maguire. Apparently he will be leaving for either Manchester United or Manchester City during the summer transfer window, according to reports. That is still speculative at this stage.
Additionally, there are also indications for both outcomes being the eventuality; him staying or indeed leaving. Those signals include Daily Star reporting a £65million bid cam capture Maguire. Then there is Mirror Sport, who inform us that £80m is the King Power club’s valuation. Finally, TalkSPORT suggests the Citizens won’t meet the £80m costing.
In The Mirror on Thursday were details of the Manchester rivals competing for the former-Sheffield United star’s signature:
"Manchester City are poised to beat local rivals Manchester United to the £65million capture of Harry Maguire this summerBoth Manchester clubs are in for England star Maguire, but Premier League champions City have moved ahead of United in the race to sign him.Maguire is ready to move on after two years at Leicester and it is understood City is the 26-year-old’s preferred destination, in particular the chance to play under Pep Guardiola.United are also in for Maguire but have failed to meet Leicester’s valuation of their prized asset."
Incidentally, Maguire himself also made a major button-pressing-faux-pass by liking a post stating he could become a ‘Man United fan favourite’. Subsequently the more salacious of media outlets immediately reported the miniscule mistake. Immediately, the 26-year-old tweeted a denial; explaining he made an error by favouring the tweet. Hmm, we’ve all “been there”, eh Harry?
Time will tell if Maguire is being honest or not. While there was talk of he and late Leicester chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha having a gentlemen’s agreement to allow Maguire to leave for a bigger club in due course. If you value Foxes of Leicester’s view, then, sadly for the Blue Army faithful we believe the affectionately named ‘slab-head’ will be sold this in window. Unfortunately.
Should Leicester City accept £65M?
In short, unless the player demands a move which is unlikely, no. If Maguire wants to leave it’s probably best to play the Mancunians off against one another. Consequently the Foxes can accept the highest bid. Leicester supporters certainly don’t want or need another Riyad Mahrez-esque AWOL saga.
However, if the Sheffield-born athlete remains committed to the Foxes, then, in the mindset of no longer being a ‘selling club’, keep him. Even if that solution means a decreased valuation the following summer when he inevitably departs. He may even perform exceptionally well and earn a £100M pricetag. According to the Guardian, Liverpool and City’s pursuit of perfection has caused the hike in ‘x-rated fees’ to a scary normality.

Is Harry Maguire on Virgil Van Dijk’s level? Not quite, in our honest, humble and impartial opinion. Maguire is the English version of the Liverpool stalwart; yet not as accomplished, fast or swift at reading the game.
Though Maguire is quickly taking on the mantle of England’s main centre-back, stature most thought Man City’s John Stones had acquired. Stones seems less comfortable than his Three Lions counterpart in Gareth Southgate’s ‘playing out from the back’ style. Pep Guardiola as well as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are thought to particularly admire the Englishman’s relaxed, advancing technique.
