ESPN and BT Sport commentator Ian Darke has advised Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell to move to “trophy-winning team” Chelsea.

The Blues are reportedly leading the race for the 22-year old as per the Mail Online; however, a move is not going to be as easy as one, two and three.

Chelsea are still under a transfer embargo and will have to have it either lifted or reduced by the Court of Arbitration for Sport – they are waiting to have an appeal date from the governing body at the moment.

In the scenario that their ban is indeed reduced, Chelsea would be able to sign Chilwell in January, and Darke feels that both the England international and the club should not have any second thoughts about the transfer.

"“He’s a really good player and he’s come on a lot since he was that player who wasn’t good enough when Leicester upset the odds to win the Premier League,” Darke said on ESPN FC.“Now, he’s one of the best left-backs in the league, no doubt about it.“It would be a lovely move for him to go to Chelsea, who are a trophy-winning team.“No offence to Leicester, but it’s potential with Leicester, they’ve got to finish in the top four.“For the player, yeah it’s a good move.“I don’t think Leicester City will want to sell, though, to a top-four rival.“Marcos Alonso’s a star has been on the wane since the title-winning days, so he’s number two to Emerson, I’d say.“Chilwell would be an upgrade to either of those.“If Chelsea were able to get that down when the transfer ban is lifted, that would be a great bit of business.”"

Manchester United are also interested in signing Chilwell, while Manchester City may yet come back in for him next summer.

Leaving for City will no doubt be a step up for the Foxes star but Chelsea? It is not all doom and gloom at Stamford Bridge but no one knows where the club is heading under Frank Lampard and whether he will get enough time for the project to take shape.

It would therefore be best for Chilwell to not look at South West London and maintain his focus on the gorgeous East Midlands.

There are some really big things ahead for the club, and Chilwell being one of the reasons behind that, he would not want to not be a part of the party as well.
