Leicester: Making the case to sign Jamal Lewis
Leicester City should seriously consider signing Norwich City’s Jamal Lewis this summer, if the transfer window is opened.
With completion of the Premier League in doubt, the 2020 pre-season transfer window is also under consideration. However, it would be inconsiderate for sides such as Leicester City to avoid conducting as much preparation in identifying targets to sign when business is again allowed. Whilst hoping that the coronavirus is placed under control as soon as possible, naturally.
With the Foxes always seemingly in the market for defenders, there is cut price player who could very well suit the King Power outfit perfectly. If certain defensive-minded assets like Ben Chilwell or, heaven forbid, Ricardo Pereira depart Filbert Way – signing Norwich City’s Jamal Lewis would be an astute decision.
Why Jamal Lewis is tailor-made for Leicester City
Let’s say Chilwell leaves, Leicester City might prospectively put the encouraging James Justin on the left; he advances up the line well, suiting Brendan Rodgers’ style. And the former Luton Town man can double as a winger or in a right-sided capacity, as well. Then the Foxes would hopefully still have Ricardo on the right. If the Portuguese is moved to the wing, then Justin can come in at RB and, potentially, Jamal Lewis’ role is left fullback.
The option is especially tempting with regards to a bid, because of the fact that the Canaries are likely to be relegated if the campaign is finished. This situation would make Lewis a bargain at an estimated £10 million, according to Transfermarkt.
Then there’s the fantastic goal the defender actually scored against Leicester, a quite simply majestic finish which bolsters his appeal. Along with having an excellent, tough defensive reputation and record: 1.7 successful tackles and 0.9 interceptions per top-flight game.
Norwich’s starlet is also mature at age 22, with a brain to match: he’s using his lockdown time wisely by undertaking a financial trading course, per The Times. The only question I have over the acquisition of Lewis is that the Foxes should maybe sign his team-mate and right-back Max Aarons, too.
