Leicester arrange friendly with rivals before Watford clash
Thanks for joining Foxes of Leicester’s Monday news roundup. Today we’ll be discussing Premier League updates and Leicester City’s friendly.
In nine short days the premiership is back! Only 12 days separate us from seeing Leicester City back in action, too. The world definitely deserves some English top-flight football to keep us entertained. Watford will entertain the Foxes on Saturday, June 20 at their Vicarage Road ground. The Hornets are managed by former Leicester boss Nigel Pearson.
In preparation for the EPL restart, the King Power Stadium witnessed a senior Foxes 11 versus 11 practice match over the last weekend. Sides were composed of a mixture of starters and those who are usually substitutes. Therefore the starting XIs of either line-up doesn’t give us clues to the eventual team for the Watford outing.
In fact, mildly surprisingly, due to the secrecy over elite tactics – the in-house contest is featured on Leicester City’s official YouTube account.
Premier League return
There are a few new aspects introduced for the game’s upcoming comeback: teams will be able to field nine subs instead of seven. Along with having permission to use five; as opposed to the former number of three bench players being introduced. Additionally, as we all know, supporters are unfortunately not currently allowed in stadiums but all games are to be broadcast on television.
Leicester City friendly
According to Leicester Mercury, Leicester City have a friendly arranged with Midlands rivals Aston Villa. However, the outlet says the noncompetitive clash is yet to be confirmed though they understand it is ‘lined up’. A date is also unspecified.
This will be the fifth time this term that the Foxes have met the Villans: with Brendan Rodgers’ team winning two, Villa beating their opponents once, with one draw. Albeit the upcoming fixture will only concern fitness as well as a feel for a fan-less atmosphere.
