Leicester close to signing a new centre-back
According to transfer rumours on Tuesday, Leicester City are closing in on signing Southampton centre-half Jannik Vestergaard.
The supposed defensive signing Leicester City are on the precipice of making is not the transfer some Foxes fans were expecting. And, let’s be honest – not who they were hoping for.
Southampton’s Jannik Vestergaard is the man most recently linked to being ‘close’ to moving to King Power Stadium. While Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer remains with the Hoops.
However, with Leicester’s track record of buying reasonably priced, highly skilled players in the past few years, Foxes of Leicester are sure that Vestergaard will be moulded into an adequate performer and will do a good job.
Prospective Leicester City new man
If the tall Dane joins Leicester City, he’ll have very stiff competition for a place in the side: in fact, he’d have to somehow dismantle the already great partnership of Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu. Unless Brendan Rodgers went radical all of a sudden and adopted a three at the back system.
Vestergaard is most likely to be purchased, if speculation is to be believed, to be an understudy/squad player. Of course, the Foxes are going to have many more fixtures next season as they hopefully enter the Champions League, once again.
Last time in that competition the East Midlanders managed a quarter-final appearance; only succumbing to a superb Atletico Madrid outfit in 2017.
In Wednesday’s The Times was a report suggesting Leicester are ‘closing in’ on the 27-year-old Saints defender. Meanwhile, Danish press say that the English team would be willing to pay up to £26 million. A figure which seems high to us at FoL.
