For some reason Leicester City have been linked with transfer moves for three Southampton players the Foxes don’t even need.

It was speculated earlier in the week that Jannik Vestergaard and Ryan Bertrand are wanted transfers targets of East Midlands giants Leicester City. To the unsurprising shock of the Foxes faithful.

Of course the Blue Army reacted to the news of the Vestergaard interest with suspicion, bemusement and an attitude that reflected the unnecessary nature of the prospective move. Yes – the squad will need back up players, especially when hopefully entering into the Champions League next season. Yet, surely supporters can generally expect incomings to be of a higher quality.

In addition, adding insult to injury, Southampton fans picked up on the story that suggested Leicester are monitoring the Dane. Promptly and unsubtly, they subsequently launched a tongue-in-cheek Twitter attack on their Premier League superiors. This jesting was mildly humorous and certainly not unexpected.

I’m absolutely positive that Saints supporters would be delighted with the ridiculous £26 million valuation that was touted.

While Bertrand is a more attractive commodity, his age means it is unlikely he would become Leicester City’s starting left-back. A role as understudy to Ben Chilwell, or supporting the England defender’s prospective replacement in some capacity is more likely. I can assure you that Foxes fans would much prefer to sign Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney or Nicolas Tagliafico of Ajax.

Leicester City want a third Saint?!

On Wednesday, talkSPORT claimed that Leicester are following a third Saint, in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The outlet says the Danish international is valued at £35m; with Everton and Tottenham Hotspur also mentioned as admirers.

This was another slightly stunning rumour: usually a connection with Hojbjerg would be welcomed, as he’s a decent player. But he isn’t as good as Wilfred Ndidi – that opinion is not in doubt. There are also two other good defensive-minded midfielders already with the Foxes: Hamza Choudhury as well as Papy Mendy. Obviously the Dane can play slightly more forward, but Leicester have better players there.
