Leicester target Odsonne Edouard, Brendan Rodgers reunion
Leicester City will battle with Arsenal, Everton and Napoli for the signature of Odsonne Edouard this summer, according to reports. This is FoL’s verdict.
Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard is a wanted man by some big clubs. He has been linked with moves away from Celtic Park for a while now. There seems to be a chance that a reunion with former manager Brendan Rodgers, now at Leicester City, could be on the cards for the 22-year-old.
Edouard, who was named Scotland’s player of the season on Saturday, has scored 62 goals in 126 games since his move from Paris St-Germain in 2017. Which is a stunning ratio of finishes, obviously.
Celtic value their top goalscorer at a seemingly reasonable £35million; the Foxes would be likely to sell Kelechi Iheanacho to fund a bid for the French under-21 international, as per Daily Mail.
However, luring the former PSG man back to his former manager could be made easier if Champions League football is secured.
What will he offer to City?
The Scottish Premier League top goalscorer has been in top form this season, with 24 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions. His three goals in the Europa League will appeal to Rodgers, an will be hoping his side secure their European passage once the Premier League restarts.
This season in Scotland’s top division, Edouard took the most shots out of any other player and recorded 4.29 shots per 90 minutes. His electric pace and tall frame will cause havoc for Premier League defenders and provide an alternative or complement to Jamie Vardy.
Edouard’s 30 goals contribution – 21 goals and nine assists – in the SPL helped Celtic secure their ninth title in a row.
Will he choose Leicester City?
With Iheanacho being linked with moves away from King Power Stadium, a striker to compete with Vardy will be at the top of the wishlist going into the summer transfer window.
The record of the Frenchman for finding the net since his move to Scotland speaks for itself; not to mention his capability to perform in Europe. This will see Foxes fans’ licking their lips at the potential of Edouard becoming a Blue.
If Leicester can complete their quest for a top-four finish this season, the move could materialise and Edouard could be reunited with Rodgers in England.
