Chelsea could cancel Chilwell deal: Leicester transfers
It appeared all negotiations between Leicester City and Chelsea over Ben Chilwell were done and dusted, but the transfer could fall through.
There’s a lot that could still occur in relation to incoming or outgoing Leicester City movements. On Monday morning the club broke the news that back-up squad player, Papy Mendy, had re-signed with the Foxes. His briefly extended contract had expired a month ago but now the midfielder is back on Filbert Way.
There is also talk – four the third or fourth time this year – that playmaker extraordinare, James Maddison, will sign a new deal imminently. Apparently coronavirus halted progress on his and Caglar Soyuncu’s improved pay, yet now announcements are impending.
Leicester City player’s Chelsea move in doubt
Everybody with a slight interest in Premier League speculation, switches or rumours will have been inundated with hearsay about Chelsea’s interest in signing Ben Chilwell. The Leicester man is an international defender with England and therefore deserves respect.
However, the Blue Army have been more accepting about his departure due to an underwhelming 2019/20 showing.
His long awaited transfer to the Blues was supposedly a forgone conclusion. Although it seems as though the heel injury which kept Chilwell out of contention for the season’s completion may scupper the potential agreement, say national media.
Knock on effects that could occur following a hypothetical transfer breakdown, are obviously Chilwell remaining at Leicester. Or being sold cheaper elsewhere. Consequently the Foxes will naturally withdraw interest from Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico, whose agent has been contacted.
