Brendan Rodgers’ top two choices to replace Ben Chilwell at Leicester
English media claims that Brendan Rodgers’ top two choices to replace Ben Chilwell at Leicester City are left-backs Joe Bryan and Robin Gosens.
I’m sure you are fully aware, but Leicester City eventually sold Ben Chilwell on Wednesday evening. Frank Lampard’s ambitious, contemporary Chelsea paid an initial £50 million, apparently. A price which could possibly rise due to appearances etcetera, from reported add-on stipulations in the contract.
This agreement feels very much like a great deal for the Foxes, in Foxes of Leicester’s opinion: yes, the East Midlanders have lost a top-class fullback from their ranks, but Chilwell was one of the worst performing stars in the entire squad last season. This is now a chance for Luke Thomas; the very promising Academy graduate who impressed in the previous campaign. Or, hopefully, a transfer of a prominent left-back will transpire.
Leicester City want one of these two left-backs
Leicester City are targeting two left-backs to replace Chilwell. If rumours are to be believed, Joe Bryan of Fulham and Atalanta’s Robin Gosens are currently thought to be Rodgers’ “top targerts”. The King Power side have also been strongly linked with a move for Ajax’s Argentine defender Nicolas Tagliafico.
Leicester began their 2020/21 campaign with a friendly at Birmingham City’s training complex, also on Wednesday. In a game where Rodgers gave chances to youngsters Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Thakgalo Leshabela, Sidnei Tavares, Admiral Muskwe – who missed a penalty – Josh Eppiah and Vontae Daley-Campbell. Most noteworthy was Dewsbury-Hall’s goal and overall superb performance.
